If you have a grinding noise when your are auto-homing on an Ender 3, this video may help you resolve your issue.

The problem on my printer was the Y-axis switch was not being hit when the board is moving back, thus the board does not know when to stop moving and will keep forcing to move back which created the noise.

The easiest way I found was to use plastic tape or anything you prefer to extend the Y switch so that it could be hit by the bottom of the board when moving back. You can use a harder material or print out a small cap instead of the plastic tape.

If this does not fix your problem, you can also check the Z and X switches to see if those are being hit when auto homing and check if all plugs for all axis are tight.
