This video explores the evolution of the Ford Motorsport/ later SVO Aluminum Heads. How they were based on the High Port Cleveland 4V cylinder heads. The Heads that ruled Pro Stock. All of the Cleveland based Ford Motorsport/SVO, will take 351 Cleveland Valve train. All will need custom headers. The initial Ford Motorsport Aluminum head was the A3, which was an aluminum Copy, of the iron Cleveland High Port Pro Stock head, but much improved. Somewhere around 1982/82. These were made for 355 ci and larger engines. The exhaust had two bolt spacings, early was 2.77 inches center to center, and later which were 2.98 center to center. Subsequent heads were all 2.98 bolt spacing. The next head to follow was a rare head that was labeled Special. It was called the A4 head. I have only seen one. They were never released to the public that I know. Not sure on the year of production. You have to see this one for sure.
Next in succession was the B3/B351, I have seen it in many articles listed either way. Ford Motorsport Catalog listed it as the B351. These also were in the early catalogs, at least from 86, my earliest one. They had the next smallest Ports compared to the A3. I saw that they had square exhaust ports, and round. They were suited for 355 ci engines/NASCAR.
The next head was the C3, Cleveland. The one I have is from 1984. These had smaller narrow intakes as opposed to the A3, and square exhaust ports.
Then came the C302/D302. These were the smallest intake and exhaust ports, suited to 320ci or less. The D302, was an unmachined version.
The next and last of the Cleveland based Motorsport/SVO Aluminum Cylinder heads, was the "Too Hot For NASCAR" C302B/D302B. The later was the unmachined version. These were also target to smaller cubic inch engines, however with port work, capable of 900 hp, with under 400ci. The had extra metal in all the right areas, raised valve cover rail, by 0.200, special heat treating, and all equal bolt bosses where the head bolts go through. C302 also have this feature.
