According to historical sources, the Persian king Cyrus the Great sought to gain the trust and favor of the Massagetan queen Tomyris in order to consolidate his power. The Persians presented her with lavish gifts, including gold, jewelry, and precious fabrics, demonstrating their wealth and power. These gifts were diplomatic in nature, as Cyrus hoped to forge an alliance with Tomyris and later subjugate her people. However, the queen rejected these attempts, seeing them as a ploy to conquer her people.
