Assassin’s Creed (2007) Storyline

The Merchant King (Memory Block 04)
Altaïr’s next target leads him to the heart of Damascus, where wealth and deceit rule the streets.
His prey — Abu’l Nuqoud, the self-proclaimed Merchant King — hides behind luxury and silk-draped walls, masking corruption with gold.
While the people suffer in poverty, Abu’l Nuqoud thrives, hoarding riches stolen from both Crusader and Saracen alike.
Altaïr’s investigation reveals a man who betrayed his city’s soul for coin and comfort.
At a grand masquerade held in his palace courtyard, the King celebrates his greed — surrounded by guards and nobles drunk on power.
But the shadow of the Assassin falls silent among the guests.
As Abu’l’s words twist into arrogance, Altaïr strikes — ending the tyrant’s feast in a single breath of chaos and steel.
In his final moments, Abu’l confesses his vision:
“Peace comes when every man is rich enough to choose his own destiny.”
Leaving the lifeless king behind, Altaïr fades into the crowd.
He returns to Al Mualim, bearing another victory… but also sensing that each death reveals a deeper conspiracy among the Templars.
