In 2021, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) had began development on an adaptation to the children's animated television series "Bluey", with Paramount Pictures set as the distributor. However, due to it being available on Disney+, distribution rights were moved to 20th Century Studios. L.J. Films, operated under the Australian operations studio L.J. Operations, was involved in the project after they signed a contract with Disney and ABC. ABC produced the film with BBC Films, with L.J. Films handling the main internal works, including animation services, which were provided by Australian animation studio Epic Media Creative. Village Roadshow Pictures additionally produced the film and was distributed on February 10, 2023 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
