Death toll rises in Myanmar in wake of widespread flooding, as hundreds of thousands displaced

STORYLINE:
Flooding in Myanmar triggered by Typhoon Yagi has killed at least 113 people and displaced more than 320-thousand people across the country, the military authorities said Sunday.

Major General Zaw Min Tun, the spokesperson of Myanmar's ruling military council, said in an audio statement on state-run MRTV television that 64 people were still missing and 14 others were injured during the floodings.

56 townships in the central regions of Mandalay and Bago, as well as Shan, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states, and the country’s capital, Naypyitaw, have been affected, since Wednesday.

On Saturday, the military head, Min Aung Hlaing appealed for relief aid from foreign countries to be provided for the victims.
