I recently experimented with a cinematic look for a simple shot of a car driving into a petrol station. Captured on a Canon R6, the footage was shot in C-Log3 at (I think) ISO 3200, using a 24-70mm F2.8 Sigma lens and Pro Mist filters - Stacking 1/4 & 1/8 - as it was originally shot with the mindset of being bold on the bloom look at the time.

When I threw it into the editing suite and played around with some strong Cinema/ Film LUTS.. I loved this one.. apparently a "Little Women" LUT. The blue instantly made me think more anamorphic and Inspired by the aesthetic of those lenses, I tried a series of techniques to mimic some of their characteristics. These included:


Generative AI for a Wider Field of View:
Using a still frame from the original footage, I expanded the image in Photoshop to simulate the wider perspective of an anamorphic lens (only possible due to the static shot).

Digital Distortion for Anamorphic Flare:
I applied the "Insect Eye" effect to the background, adding a double "radial blur" and masking both of these to create a subtle distortion.

Horizontal Light Streaks for Cinematic Flair:
A custom effect was used to add horizontal streaks to the image, particularly noticeable on the car's headlights. I toned this down while noticing how "Tall" the streak was, as it was based on the bloomed headlight and looked a little off.
