Описание к видео Part : 1 | Greenwich Market | Greenwich | Street food | London | England

Greenwich has long been an active hive of industry and trade. Yet, while its maritime and royal past are justly famous, this important commercial history is less appreciated. And at the heart of this fascinating story sits Greenwich Market.

Greenwich began as a separate settlement on marshy ground five miles downriver from London. While human activity here is far more ancient, it was first mentioned as ‘Gronewic’ by the Anglo-Saxons in 918. Historically associated with the British navy and royalty (particularly the Plantagenets and Tudors – some of whom, like Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, were born here) 18th-century Greenwich had become a fashionable resort and busy urban centre.

● Greenwich Market Opening times

The market is open from 10am - 5.30pm 7 days a week and Bank Holidays.

● Greenwich Market Location

We are located in Greenwich town centre, close to main bus routes, trains, and DLR.

Our address is Greenwich Market London SE10 9HZ .

● Greenwich has excellent public transport connections and is just 8 minutes from London Bridge train station and 20 minutes from Bank station via DLR. Visitors can choose from a variety of travel options including riverboat, Docklands Light Railway (DLR), train, tube, bus or even a cable car.

● By Train

The quickest option is the Southeastern train service which takes just 17 minutes from Charing Cross station and as little as 8 minutes from London Bridge.

The walk from the train station into Greenwich town centre takes under ten minutes.

A Zone 1-2 Travelcard is valid for this journey. Alternatively catch a train to Greenwich from Waterloo East, Cannon Street, London Bridge or Dartford.

● By DLR :

Cutty Sark for Maritime Greenwich is a 23-minute direct journey from Bank tube station – catch any train heading to Lewisham, or you can join the DLR at Tower Gateway, Lewisham, Stratford and Limehouse stations.

Alternatively you can get the Jubilee line to Canary Wharf and change to the DLR there.

There is another DLR stop at Greenwich railway station.

Visit Transport for London’s site for more information on using the DLR service.

● By Tube :

The Jubilee line runs to North Greenwich, site of the O2, from where you take a short bus journey (188) to the town centre, or you can get off at Canary Wharf and catch the DLR.

Visit Transport for London’s site for more information on using the tube and links with mainline train services.

● By bus

Buses 129, 177, 188, 199, 286 and 386 go to Greenwich town centre.

● By river boat :

A relaxing way to travel to Greenwich is on the river. It's a regal way as it is the very same route that Queen Elizabeth I made in her day.

Take to the river with City Cruises. London's famous riverside landmarks really come alive on City Cruises as you are guaranteed the best views in town.Cruises depart every 30 minutes from all piers.

Thames River Services - run from Westminster and St Katharine Piers to Greenwich.

● By bike :

There are bike racks outside Waterstones on Greenwich Church Street, across the road from Café Rouge on Stockwell Street, outside St Mary's Gate to Greenwich Park and in the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College.

● On foot

Greenwich is not only a beautiful place to stroll around, it makes for a lovely walk from local Greenwich surrounding areas, Maze Hill station or across the Park.

● By cable car

Those with a good head for heights can travel from Royal Docks to North Greenwich by London Cable Car and then take bus (188) to Greenwich town centre.

● By car

The roads around Greenwich town centre are very busy and so if you can travel by public transport that's the best and quickest option.

If you do travel by car there are off-street pay-and-display car parks in Park Row and Burney Street, see the Royal Greenwich site for more information.
