Tensions flared at the United Nations as Poland directly accused Russia of a deliberate drone attack on its territory, rejecting claims it was an accident. Poland’s Secretary of State Marcin Bosacki told the UN Security Council, “We know, and I repeat, we know that it was not a mistake,” as he displayed drone wreckage with Russian markings.

The U.S. stood firmly by NATO allies, vowing to defend “every inch of NATO territory” after the incursion, which marked the first time NATO aircraft shot down Russian drones during the Ukraine war. Slovenia echoed Poland’s stance, calling it impossible that so many drones entered Polish airspace unintentionally.

Russia, however, denied the allegations, claiming its drones could not reach Poland and accused Warsaw of fueling tensions. With 43 countries backing a joint statement condemning Moscow, the incident has raised fresh fears of the Ukraine war spilling over into NATO territory.
