Javier Salazar has released new information about the deadly officer-involved shooting that left two Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies wounded.

Investigators say deputies exchanged gunfire last week with Jose Arlay Fernandez Solano after responding to a 911 call reporting threats and an intruder inside a home. Solano was shot and killed at the scene, but not before firing a single round that injured two deputies.

Sheriff Salazar now says the woman who contacted dispatch may face charges related to smuggling or hiding Solano in the country, though he emphasized authorities do not want to discourage victims from reporting domestic violence.

Salazar says both deputies are recovering with family. Investigators also revealed Solano had previously been deported, re-entered the U.S. earlier this year, and was wanted on outstanding warrants tied to prior domestic violence calls.
