Vultures are birds of prey that scavenge on carrion. There are 23 extant species of vulture (including Condors). Vultures that are supposed to clean the environment by eating the carcasses of dead animals have almost vanished from Pakistan.

The steep decline in their numbers - more than 95% of the vulture population has been wiped out since the mid-1990s- is a result of the use of industrial drugs (Diclofenac) to breed cattle whose carcasses the birds traditionally feed on.
