In December 2024, Opus convened key opinion leaders (KOLs) and company leadership for a meaningful discussion about advancing gene therapies for inherited retinal diseases (IRDs). The conversation covered the Opus pipeline of gene therapies for IRDs and recent encouraging 6-month data from Opus’ ongoing first-in-human, open label, Phase 1/2 dose-escalation trial evaluating the potential of OPGx-LCA5 to address patients with mutations in the LCA5 gene.

This is the third in the series of video vignettes sharing highlights from this insightful exchange. In this video, Opus scientific founder and board member Jean Bennett, MD, PhD, discusses the exciting advances in the field of ocular gene therapy. Dr. Bennett is the F.M. Kirby Emeritus Professor of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. A pioneer in the field, she is recognized as one of the first investigators to use viral vectors to deliver transgenes to specific cells in the retina, and also led the first team to demonstrate proof-of-principle of ocular gene therapy.
