Americans across the nation protested the prospect of votes in the presidential election not being counted. Washington state, Illinois, New York and Pennsylvania are just some of the places that saw demonstrations.

In New York city and Portland, protesters clashed with police and arrests were made.

As Joe Biden and Donald Trump await results in key states to declare victory, Mr Trump and his campaign are seeking to halt vote counts in battleground states through the courts, suggesting a turbulent few days to come.
