Today's Catholic Mass Readings and Gospel Reflection – Thursday, January 8, 2026
First Reading: 1 John 4:19—5:4
Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 72:1–2, 14–15
Gospel Reading: Luke 4:14–22a
Thursday after Epiphany — Year A
Reflection:
The mystery of Christ revealed at Epiphany continues to unfold through love, faith, and mission. Saint John teaches that love begins with God; our ability to love flows from having first been loved by Him. Faith in Jesus as the Son of God empowers believers to overcome the world through love and obedience. In the Gospel, Jesus returns to Nazareth filled with the power of the Spirit and proclaims the fulfillment of Scripture in Himself. His words reveal Him as the Anointed One sent to bring good news and liberation. Today we are invited to believe more deeply in Christ, live out His love in concrete ways, and recognize that His saving mission continues through us.
