Hands up if you were also taught that trees are the lungs of the Earth, or if any of the facts below surprised you:
1. 🫧 Our Ocean provides over 50% of the oxygen, while trees provide around 28%.
2. 🌱 So, how does the Ocean produce oxygen? It all comes down to photosynthesis: Phytoplankton and seaweed for example release oxygen while essentially making food for themselves.
3. 🤔 But, these little guys make it challenging to pin down the amount of oxygen our Ocean makes: Their quantities change from time to time which is why we can say between 50% - 80% of oxygen but not pin down an exact number.
