Part of my ongoing One Song A Month project — one original song and video released on the last day of each month in 2022. This is the 14th release in the series.

About the song

“Aliens” is my first song about being vegan — a lifestyle choice that has often made me feel like an outsider. When I was young, my aunt gave me a book written by a vegan, and suddenly things started to fall into place. Despite warnings from others about health risks, I chose to follow my convictions, and years later I feel strong and grateful for that decision.

For much of my life, I hardly knew anyone else who was vegan. Thanks to the internet and online communities, I eventually connected with others who could relate to feeling like “aliens” in their environments. This sense of belonging and shared experience is what inspired me to write the song.

About the video

Like the other songs in this project, I recorded, produced, and played all the instruments myself. But this time, my 16-year-old son — who just started Rytmus music high school — helped record the vocals. He also bravely participated in the music video, which included being woken up one Sunday morning… by an alien. 👽💚
