Identification of Hebe species is difficult, especially if they are not in flower. The plants range in size from dwarf shrubs to small trees up to 7 metres, and are distributed from coastal to alpine ecosystems. Large-leaved species are normally found on the coast, in lowland scrub and along forest margins. At higher altitudes smaller-leaved species grow, and in alpine areas there are whipcord species with leaves reduced to thick scales. Hebes are grown in many gardens and public areas; they attract butterflies. Hebes cope with most soil types, and can be propagated easily from both seed and cuttings. Wild Hebe hybrids are uncommon; however, there are many cultivated hybrids, such as Hebe × franciscana. Hebes are valued in gardens in temperate climates as evergreen shrubs with decorative (sometimes variegated) leaves. The flowers, in shades of blue, purple, pink or white, appear throughout summer and autumn. Their ability to withstand salt-laden winds makes them especially suited to coastal areas, for instance the South West of England, where they are often grown as hedges. However, they are mostly half-hardy, so will not thrive in regions subject to prolonged freezing temperatures. See more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebe_(p...)

They prefer full sun throughout the year but will also grow very well in semi-shade. In very low light conditions the plant will become leggy and may not produce flowers. See more: http://www.gardenfocused.co.uk/shrub/...

Sneplur eru einkum vinsælar hjá fiðrildum og býflugum sem sækja í hunangssafann. Þær þola sjávarseltu nokkuð vel en lifa ekki af brunagadd í langan tíma, en í Englandi þola gamlir runnar alveg 5-10 stiga frost í nokkra daga.

Sneplur - Mismunandi gerðir (lat. Hebe)
Snepla -- í fleirtölu Sneplur -, eru sígrænar fjallajurtir frá Nýja-Sjálandi sem tiltölulega nýlega hafa komist í ræktun í görðum á norðurhveli jarðar. Tegundirnar eru margar og hafa ýmsar þeirra gefist vel í görðum hér á landi. Þær blómgast mjög fallega og lengi á sumrin. Sneplur þrífast best í hallandi, helst dálítið grýttu eða grófsendnu landi þar sem vetrarvæta getur ekki staðið á þeim. Frábærar steinhæðajurtir þegar vel tekst til. http://www.blomaval.is/index.aspx?Gro...

Sígrænir runnar ættaðir frá Nýjasjálandi. Þrýfast best á sólríkum stað í velframræstum jarðvegi. Þurfa vetrarskýli, t.d. grenigreinar. https://sites.google.com/site/treogru...

Hebe has four perpendicular rows of leaves in opposite decussate pairs. The flowers are perfect, the corolla usually has four slightly unequal lobes, the flower has two stamens and a long style. Flowers are arranged in a spiked inflorescence. Identification of Hebe species is difficult, especially if they are not in flower. The plants range in size from dwarf shrubs to small trees up to 7 metres. : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hebe_(genus)

Það eru um 90 tegundir : http://translate.google.is/translate?...

Members of the foxglove (Scrophulariaceae) family, most of the 100 species of evergreen shrubs in this genus are native to New Zealand, with a few representatives from southern South America and New Guinea. Hebes grow in a wide range of habitats, from coastal areas to alpine regions, and may be shrubby, tree-like, compact, or sprawling. While hebes feature attractive foliage, they are chiefly grown for their abundant flowers, and there are a large number of cultivars and hybrids available. The genus is named for Hebe, the Greek goddess of youth, possibly for their ease of propagation. Propagate from half-hardened cuttings or seed. http://www.abc.net.au/gardening/stori...

Grows well in poor to moderately fertile soil in sun or partials shade with protection from cold, drying winds. Tolerant of some pollution and can also be grown in a cool glasshouse in a loam-based compost with shade from hot sun. http://apps.rhs.org.uk/plantselector/...

Flowers, usually in long spikes, come in various shades from white and pink to mauve or purple. http://www.wildaboutgardens.org.uk/pl...
