Hypnagogia, Donkey Danger Rill Wobinson

Welcome to my channel! Join me on a mesmerizing journey through the realm of dreams and imagination with this timelapse painting video. In this artwork, I explore the fascinating concept of hypnagogia—the transitional state between wakefulness and sleep where dreams and hallucinations often unfold.
The painting features a stunning scene: a colossal blue mushroom dominates the canvas, surrounded by vibrant, otherworldly plants and foliage. In the foreground, a whimsical touch—an adventurous donkey leaps in front of the mushroom. To the side, a carnivorous tropical pitcher plant looms, with two baby deer playfully hopping towards it. Adding to the surreal landscape, a distinguished black and white lemur dons a suit as it rides a snail—though this snail has the body of an eel with formidable teeth. Above it all, an orca gracefully floats, completing the dreamlike tableau.
This artwork was born from a moment of hypnagogic inspiration. As I drifted between wakefulness and sleep, vivid images and fantastical scenes unfolded in my mind. The process of capturing these fleeting visions in art allows me to explore the boundary between reality and the subconscious, where creativity flourishes in its purest form.
For me, hypnagogic experiences are not just random hallucinations; they are profound sources of creative energy and inspiration. They offer glimpses into surreal worlds that defy logic and invite viewers to explore the depths of their own imaginations.
I believe that art is a bridge to the intangible and a reflection of our inner landscapes. Through this painting, I aim to evoke wonder, curiosity, and a sense of adventure in every viewer. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a dreamer, or simply curious about the mysteries of the mind, I invite you to experience this journey with me.
Please enjoy this timelapse video of my painting process and immerse yourself in the magical world of hypnagogic art. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to my channel for more surreal and imaginative artworks. Thank you for joining me on this artistic exploration!

That state where you are not yet awake but not entirely asleep, and your dreams are flashing in your mind, has a name. It is called hypnagogia.

According to Google, hypnagogia is the transition between wakefulness and sleep. During this state, it's common to experience visual, audio, or other types of hallucinations. It's also common to experience muscle jerks and sleep paralysis.

Some people purposely try to induce hypnagogia to stimulate creativity.
I've experienced this state all my life, though not on purpose.

This drawing, for example, was conceived during hypnagogia. I was asleep, swimming in the ocean of dreamland visions and suddenly I was half awake, hypnagoging about Will Robinson and his "Danger, danger!" screaming robot. They were on a planet with huge mushrooms, and a donkey face appeared. The donkey in my hypnagogic state was gray, but you have to make do with limited art supplies, so the donkey in this here painting is brown.

I have discovered that if you don't immediately write about your dreams or your hypnagogic hallucinations, you forget them within five minutes of waking up. So, if you want to remember them, write them down as soon as possible. Lately, I've been dictating them on my phone, and when I hear them, I realize I remember nothing about these hallucinogenic ramblings. They are a great source of creative ideas.

Sometimes your dream is so great you wish you could extend it forever, and some people manage to control their hypnagogic state and extend it. I've also experienced this, albeit not on purpose; it just happens to me, and it is wonderful when you half-consciously drift into enchanting landscapes of the mind.

The hypnagogic state can also cause paralysis. This feeling of floating in nothingness, where you are half awake but something seems to be holding you, paralyzed, from another dimension, is something I have felt many times.

Once, I saw the face of the Virgin Mary while I was hypnagogically paralyzed, and it almost made me religious.

Hypnagogic hallucinations are not my only source of creativity, but they are definitely the most fun. Not only is the experience enjoyable, but translating it into my own art is what keeps me alive sometimes.

Please relax and enjoy the rest of my painting with me.
