Parks to Jack Straw's Lane to Cuckoo Lane & Old High Street, Oxford, September 3rd 2024

I start at the University Parks and walk to the Rainbow Bridge, then along the Marston Brook path in the same direction as on    • Marston Brook path from University Pa...   . When the path splits, I turn right ( rather than left as in    • University Parks via St. Nicholas Sch...   ), eventually coming onto Edgeway Road and then Marston Road. I walk along Marston Road for a short distance until I see the church at the bottom of Jack Straw's Lane, then turn up the lane and walk its length and then to Pullen's Lane.

Jack Straw's Lane has some large and probably astronomically-priced houses, and Pullen's Lane even more so. These are worth seeing anyway, especially if you want to practise envy. I am looking for one where Lewis Carroll used to visit friends, as recorded in a diary entry for 1885. I think I find the site, but the house isn't visible from the road. I carry on to Cuckoo Lane, and walk to its end in Headington Old High Street, which I take a look at, going as far as the junction with St. Andrew's Road. There are some nice old houses and a rural atmosphere in places, and two pubs, the Black Boy and the White Hart.

Finally, I walk back to the main road and cross to the Thong Heng oriental supermarket. Shopping there was one reason for my trip.
