Chicago was once one of the busiest ports in the world. The ships that docked here in its heyday were two and three masted schooners that carried grain, timber and other commodities from the west and delivered the needed goods from the east that helped the region grow. Many of those ships ended up as shipwrecks that we as scuba divers can visit today. They are museums to our maritime heritage in their own right.

Many people, however, are not aware that we have right here in Chicago, near the famous "Bubbly Creek", a land museum that helps explain this heritage in more detail.

Our presentation this month will be by the Curator of the Chicago Maritime Museum, Madeline Crispell. The Chicago Maritime Museum offers visitors a chronological look at Chicago's history through its waterways, from the region's earliest inhabitants through to the present day.

Join CMM Curator Madeline Crispell for a dive into the Museum's current and upcoming exhibitions along with some collection highlights, with particular emphasis on how our collection was grown by scuba divers and underwater archeologists.

Madeline Crispell is the Curator of the Chicago Maritime Museum where she is currently working on the upcoming temporary exhibition Art and Labor on the Great Lakes. Her exhibitions, walking tours, and programs across Chicagoland have focused on subjects ranging from American travel, to historic preservation in Pullman, to the history of trash and alleyways, among others.
