The University of Nottingham was first started off as a Civic College and later became the Nottingham University through the Royal Charter in 1948. Eminent personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Einstein, and HG Wells served as guest lecturers in the college then.

Nottingham has consistently been ranked amongst the top universities in the UK. It is associated with the European University Association, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Universitas 21, and a member of the Russell Group.

University of Nottingham offers expertise in Geography, Education and training, Veterinary sciences, Pharmacy, and English language and literature. Nottingham has carved a niche when it comes to research activities and innovation. The university is ranked eighth in the UK in terms of research.
