It's not worth risking everything that you've built for that to go away. STORYLINE:
Professionals attending the American Massage Therapy Association national convention have gathered to talk about their work. It's a job that can be difficult and the pandemic, tragic murders in Georgia and the lingering stain of NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson's ongoing case have perpetuated the sex worker stigma around the industry.
That seemingly inescapable feeling is in their face each day of the convention in Cleveland. Watson is now the quarterback of the Browns and his new workplace looms just a block from the convention center and their hotel across the street.
They can avoid the reminder by taking another route to the convention center — walking underground.
Not that these professionals want to hide. They didn't ask for any of this and they aren't happy about it.
This convention was planned three years ago, well before Watson first demanded to be traded by the Houston Texans or the first report of the quarterback being accused of sexual misconduct with a massage therapist.
The NFL has said Watson's case is over, issuing an 11-game suspension and $5 million fine — which the AMTA believes was not nearly harsh enough.
