The Sony ECM-w3 wireless system had the promise of being a great little system but it falls well short of the performance of systems like the DJI mic 2 or the Rode wireless pro. The other r2 system have a rich feature set and while the Sony wireless system has good audio it lacks the back up recording and strong signal link the DJI Mic 2 has. The biggest issue is that none of the other systems had a way to connect to sony cameras without using the mic input jack. Until now. DJI released the DJI mic 2 digital multi interface shoe adapter that allows the DJI mic 2 to connect digitally to sony cameras through the hot shoe eliminating the need for cables and giving you a clean signal for audio. This completely changed the only reason to get the sony ecm-w3 wireless mic system. So DJI basically fixed the worst product sony has released recently by coming up with a better product and at a cheaper price point.
