Описание к видео Flesh Fly - Scathophaga - Hræbokka - Hræfluga - Maðkafluga - Skordýr

Flesh flies - probably a Sarcophaga carnaria - Муха - Maðkaflugur - Hræflugur - Rotflugur - Maðkafluga - Masařka Obecná - Серые мясные мухи - Masařka - Muchówka - Ścierwica mięsówka - Mosca de la carne - Graue Fleischfliege - Gefleckte Hausfliege - Larviposição - Mouche à damiers - Sarcophagidae - Sarcophagidae - Red eyes and a bristled abdomen - Hræfluga .

Flesh-flies Sarcophaga carnaria - have black and gray longitudinal stripes on the thorax and black and white checker markings along the abdomen. The eggs are laid on rotting carcasses, or dung in some species. The larvae (maggots) reach their full size in just a few days, then burrow into the soil to pupate through the winter. They emerge as adult flies in the summer. See more: http://www.uksafari.com/fleshflies.htm

The Diptera are the true flies. The Diptera is one of the largest orders in the class Insecta, with over 120,000 described species. The larvae (maggots or grubs) are completely different in structure and behaviour to the winged adults and, as a result, dipterous flies can be parasites as larvae or adults, but they are rarely parasites in both life-cycle stages. Adult flies of veterinary importance may feed on blood, sweat, skin secretions, tears, saliva, urine or faeces of the domestic animals to which they are attracted. Sarcophaga nodosa - They differ from most flies in that they are ovoviviparous, opportunistically depositing hatched or hatching maggots instead of eggs on carrion, dung, decaying material, or open wounds of mammals, hence their common name. Some flesh fly larvae are internal parasites of other insects. The majority of species in the large genus Sarcophaga are scavengers of small carrion, such as dead insects and snails or smaller vertebrates. A few species feed on larger vertebrate carcasses. Flesh fly maggots occasionally eat other larvae, although this is usually because the other larvae are smaller and get in the way. Flesh flies and their larvae are also known to eat decaying vegetable matter and excrement, and they may be found around compost piles and pit latrines. Flesh flies can carry leprosy bacilli and can transmit intestinal pseudomyiasis to people who eat their larvae. Flesh flies, particularly Wohlfahrtia magnifica, can also cause myiasis in animals, mostly to sheep, and can give them blood poisoning, or asymptomatic leprosy infections. The Diptera ("di-ptera" = two-winged) or "true flies" is the largest order of animals in the UK with around 7,000 known species and new ones being discovered every year. They are found in all habitats from the sea shore to mountain tops. Whilst some are agricultural pests or vectors of disease, the great majority are beneficial. They are extremely important as predators on other pests and diseases, as pollinators, as food for other animals and the immature stages of the bulk of the species are involved in the decay of organic matter and the recycling of material back into the soil. Entomologists who specialise in these insects are "dipterists". In 1993, a group of people who wanted to find out more about every aspect of their lives, including the habitats they require, set up the Dipterists Forum. There is a great deal still to learn about flies. Mapping the distribution of some groups is a major achievement of the Dipterists Forum to date, but the immature stages of the majority of species are still unknown. Many species are becoming increasingly rare as a result of habitat loss and climate change. See more: http://www.dipteristsforum.org.uk/

The Natural History Museum's collections of Diptera contains approximately 2.5 million specimens. See more: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curatio...
