When I was a youngster in the pre-streaming days of yore, I had a bunch of mp3s that I would listen to on repeat. Honestly can't remember where I got them from, but I knew those tracks inside-out. This was one of them!

One of my students requested to jam a song of his choice at the end of class some time back - Godzilla. I was somewhat amused - this was one of the tracks I used to listen to as a teenager! He is disbelieving that I know it, and proceeds to pull up Godzilla KOTM - the bear McCreary version - and I’m like naw man, this is not the real deal. So I show him a bit of the Blue Oyster Cult original (while acknowledging that the drum beat is pretty cool, he still preferred the McCreary).

After listening to both for a bit, I figured they both had their merits, so I’ll make an attempt at each and let y’all decide which you prefer. Here’s my take on the original version, with that lovely neither-swung-nor-straight feel and one of my favorite groove solos. KOTM version on the way!
