2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Ulysse Nardin "Grand Date" and GMT+/ dual time complication. This practical pair made its debut in 1995 on the Ulysse Nardin San Marco series, and today's 42mm Ulysse Nardin Dual Time in 18-arat rose continues a modern tradition of beauty, utility, and value.

Ulysse Nardin of Le Locle, Switzerland has built a formidable reputation for innovation since its 1983 brush with oblivion. Restored to its glory by the late Rolf Schnyder, UN paved its path to resurrection with watches that combined clever functions with intuitive operation.

True to its name, the Ulysse Nardin Dual Time offers two independent time zones. The local time is displayed on the hands at center; the buttons at ten and eight o'clock advance or retard the central hour hand by one hour per click. At nine o'clock, a second reference (home) time zone is depicted by a 24-hour disc within a rose gold aperture ring. The double-digit large date at two o'clock is driven by the central hands and reflects the user's current time zone. Ulysse Nardin's Dual Time sports a shapely 42mm rose gold case worthy of a Vacheron Constantin. the stepped lugs are almost teardrop in form and declare themselves with a bold presence. The watch's bezel is tall and dramatically domed to ensure an imposing presence, and when combined with pronounced hour pushers and crown guards, the total effect creates the impression of a far larger timepiece.

Ulysse Nardin employs an elaborate dial that splits the difference between a sports watch and a dress reference. Dramatic rayon guilloche projects upward from the sub-seconds display, and the applied rose gold indices, anchor, and home time bezel impart elegance to the watch's face. Sporting elements include the broad luminescent swatches on the broadsword hands and the corresponding luminescent plots outboard of the gold hour markers.

Inside the case, which is water resistant to a sports watch-worthy 100-meters, Ulysse Nardin employs its caliber 35 automatic movement. This rugged timekeeper is based on the superb ETA 2892-A2 base movement and elaborated with UN's own dual-time/grand date complication module.
