Welcome back to ‘the bible says what’. Today I will summarize Romans chapter 3, where Paul explained that the whole world is guilty of sin before God, and where he explained how people are justified by faith in Christ alone. Paul started by asking a question, and then answered it. He asked, ‘so is there any benefit to being a Jewish descendant of Abraham and Isaac? He said of course. God’s word and Law was given to Moses, and Abraham was given a promise. Then Paul asked another question… he said ‘what happens if some people do not believe God and His promises? Does that nullify God’s promises? Paul said of course not. Let God be true, and every man a liar. It does not matter what men believe. God wants them to subscribe to His way of thinking, but if they do not, it changes nothing. God’s promises are unstoppable.
Then Paul asked another question and answered it. He said ‘so, are Jewish people better than the Gentiles in any way? He answered. Not at all. In God’s eyes, everyone is living in sin. As it is written in the Old Testament Psalms, there is none righteous, not even one. There are none who understand. There are none who seek for God. Not even one. Paul went on to say the Law was given to show people where they sin. It is just like a mirror. It has no power to save anyone’s soul. Every mouth will be shut and there will be no excuses on judgment day.
Paul then said, let’s talk about what can actually save your soul. God’s forgiveness and justification through Jesus Christ alone can save your soul. Everyone has sinned and fall short of the glory of God. But God has given people a gift of grace. He has justified them and redeemed them through the blood of Jesus Christ and through faith in Him alone. God is both perfect and fair, and the justifier of the person who has faith in Jesus. In light of this, all boasting should cease. No one is justified by works of the law, but by faith alone. God is Lord over the Jews and the Gentiles. He can and will justify whomever He chooses. He does not nullify the Law through faith. He makes the Law by faith. Both the Jew and the Gentile will be saved in the same way, through faith in Jesus Christ.
The most important verses in this chapter are Romans 3:22 through 25 which state, ‘Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;’
The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that just because some people do not believe what He says makes no difference at all. His word will stand strong in the end. God wants people to know clearly that everyone has sinned and everyone falls short of His glory. Everyone is doomed to die in their sin without God’s grace and mercy. But He did decide to show mercy to the people who place their faith in Jesus Christ. And God wants us to know He will justify whomever he so chooses. There is no other way. Jews and Gentiles alike can be saved through the blood of Jesus Christ alone. He is in charge, and we are not. God determines what reality is. Fortunately He is loving, patient, and kind.
Do you believe there are many paths up the mountain to God? Did you realize the Bible clearly states this is not the case? Why don’t you turn to the Lord if you haven’t already? Repent for running away from Him and turn to Jesus for salvation. Jesus humbled himself and died on a cross as your substitute, and the Father raised Jesus from the dead. God said if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, you would be saved.
