-flying tackle & dropkick - introduced to pro wrestling in late 1920s to early 1930s
-september 16 of 1930 - sports first major 3 letter acronym debuted: NWA
-promoter Paul Bowser created a rival to nwa in 1931 with AWA
-also 1931 - Al Haft created Midwest Wrestling Alliance (John Pesek was his first regional champion)
-in 1948, paul "pinkie" george of Des Moines, Iowa aligned w/ affiliates in neighboring states and expanded his local NWA into a budding cooperative

-Lou Thesz - given NWA support as heavyweight kingpin in 1949
-in 1950, chicago's Fred Kohler didn't like that non-nwa member Leonard Schwartz moved into his territory w/ help from Al Haft
-plot in 1957 to split the NWA world heavyweight title, giving a claim to Edouard Carpentier while Lou Thesz was overseas
-Eddie Quinn - carpentier's manager, temporarily left NWA over feud with Jack Pfefer

-NWA personalities:
-Johnny Doyle in Hollywood - lavish spender who loved airplanes & ritzy nightclub life
-Toots Mondt of New York - created superstars Primo Carnera & Antonino Rocca
-Frank Tunney in Toronto - straightlaced
-Don Owen in Portland - similarly respected
-Morris Sigel of Houston - ran things smoothly except a blowout w/ Ed McLemore (dallas) in 1953
-Dory Funk Sr. & Dory Detton of West Texas - latter bowed out in 1955, Funk realigned w/ Dr. Karl Sarpolis
-Orville Brown of Kansas city - career cut short by a 1949 car accident, retired early 1960's was taken over by Bob Geigel & Pat O'Connor
-Paul Jones of Atlanta
-Cowboy Luttrall of Florida
-"Big" Jim Crockett Sr. - controlled Carolinas & parts of Virginia
-Nick Gulas & Roy Welch - controlled regions of Tennessee & Kentucky

-Joe Malcewicz of San Fran - known for his generosity, when "Wild" Bill Longson was injured in 1937, Malcewicz stepped p to pay his medical bills


-Sam Muchnick (st. louis) - spirit behind coalition from 1950 to 1982

-Vincent J McMahon - became an official NWA member in 1960
-late 1960/early 1961 - mcmahon sold idea of giving Nature Boy Buddy Rogers the NWA title. bestowing the title to a heel was far from ordinary
-mcmahon coordinated his withdrawal from nwa with roger's loss of championship to lou thesz on january 24 of 1963. he formed the WWWF
-on may 17 of 1963 - rogers passed the title on to bruno sammartino in a 48 second match at MSG
-1963 to 1971 - brunos 1st reign (1971 was the year McMahon rejoined the alliance)
-sammartino dropped title to "russian bear" ivan koloff on jan 18 of 1971
-Pedro Morales took title a month later on Feb 8 of 1971
-Stan Stasiak took title on dec 1 of 1973, but only held it until 9 days later when Bruno took it
-April 30 of 1977 - Superstar Billy Graham takes the title in Baltimore
-Feb 20 of 1978 - at MSG, Bob Backlund becomes champ

-in NWA, from 1975 to 1979, their title passes around Terry Funk, Harley Race, & Dusty Rhodes
-Giant Baba receives a week long reign in late 1979

-WWWF shortened to WWF in 1979
-McMahon Jr. was hired as a WWF TV commentator in 1972, replacing Ray Morgan
-4 stockholders in Capitol Wrestling: McMahon Sr, Robert Marella (gorilla monsoon), Arnold Skaaland, & Phil Zacko

-Dick Shikat double-crossed Danno O'Mahoney on March 2 of 1936, stealing the world title

-Stu Hart - began owning Foothills Athletic Club (Alberta) in 1952
-Colos Colon & Victor Jovica - founded Capitol Sports Promotions (Puerto Rico) in 1973 (joined NWA in 1979)
-Verne Gagne - started grappling in 1949, started AWA in 1960
-Angelo Poffo ran ICW (outlaw) out of Lexington KY, top stars being his sons Lanny Poffo & Randy Savage
-set a sit up record in 1945 (6,033)

-NWA took a hit when Frank Tunney died on May 10 of 1983 - he was a selfless mentor & senior voice of reason
-Jim Barnett - stepped down from board of directors (NWA) as Ole joined it [secret plans to aid McMahon]
-by June 1983, McMahon jr owned WWF - Titan Sports had purchased McMahon Sr's Capitol Wrestling Corporation
-October 1984 pact: Jim Crockett, Ole Anderson, Jerry Jarrett

-Paul Boesch - longtime Houston promoter, lured into business as a grappler by jack pfefer in 1932
-Hisasyi Shinma - matchmaker for Inoki, broke off to form UWF
-Florida Territory - when Eddie Graham died (1985), it passed to Hiro Matsuda & Duke Keomuka

-in 1986, Gagne lost assistants Wally Karbo & Blackjack Lanza. Lanza convinced CKND-TV station manager Don Brinton to drop AWA telecast and replace it w/ WWF's Maple Leaf Wrestling (Dennis Hilgart also jumped to WWF)
