i am new to this group and a new Betta mommy. i was wondering if you all could tell me how often you feed your Bettas, how much, and what type of food? thank you. i have a variety of food for Bernie and i read some conflicting stuff on how much to feed him. i have read, twice a day to only three times a week. Just wondering how often you all feed your bettas? thanks. i know it's not good to overfeed them.

Okay all, it took me a couple weeks but after all of your tips we have our tank set up, still lacking decor, but hopefully Mike will love his new digs. It’s hard to tell with all the bubbles (hopefully those go away??) but we have moss balls, and a plant I can’t spell lol, a heater, sponge filter with charcoal removed, and the safe start poured in along with the stuff that removes chemicals. I even got a shot of Flash the Chinchilla being nosy lol. Thank you all that helped steer me in the right direction!    • Видео  

:) you got plants for the betta to rest on. The tank looks very good with the black substrate and the plants :) yes micro bubbles go away they just coming from the tap water. if you get a halfmoon or a betta with long i would decrease flow of the filter. Nip fins tend to happen when there is too much current. Because the fins are already so heavy and long the current just makes it drag even more and they usually nip their fins to feel lighter and reduce that drag.

I’m going to pick up a suction cup soap dish with pretty rocks to put under it to slow the flow and put hose over the tip. That should help. Now some decor to hide in l: I just got a new 5 gallon. I'm going to do a fishless cycle using Dr. Tims ammonia. I'm using a sponge filter as well. I already have a testing kit. Is there anything else I need? Anything I can do to speed up the process? I only ask cuz I bought a betta and the breeder said he would hold him until my tank is cycled.

Is it weird that the water coming out of the filter in my tank has a different pH than the general water in the tank? The darker blue is from the water flowing out of the filter, the lighter blue one is from the front of the tank (it's a 14g) I do have very soft(hard? Whichever the one that drops pH is..) water so I do have a bag of crushed coral at the back of the tank to keep the pH stable, but there's nothing like that in the filter itself.   / plecofishkeepers  

Okay great! Is the survival rate pretty good with bloating? I've never dealt with this before so I'm just a little nervous. Haha If it’s just bloating, he’ll be fine after he poops. The problem is if he develops Swim Bladder Disease as a result of bloating, which is why it’s important to make sure we don’t overfeed.

If he’s still bloated after 4 or 5 days try an epsom salt bath to help. 1 tablespoon to 1 gallon (half tank water half fresh water) and let him soak from 10-15 depending on how bad of a bloat it is. Guys help. What could be the reason for random swim bladder problems? I he was just fine this morning and was just thinking about how bright and lively he was looking. And the like 20 mins later he is not swimming right. He seems completely normal except that he can't swim. He's still trying to eat and trying to be active.

So I have a 60 gallon tank. I’m wanting to use sand but I also want it to be a planted tank. Will plants grow in the sand? And how many female bettas should I get? And what other fish can be with them?

Plants usually have trouble in sand but that can be mitigated by putting them in soil-filled pots and then buring under sand or leaving exposed (whichever you prefer).
For your stocking i'd put the cap at 12 females to ensure limited interaction and adequate hiding spots. If your tank is super super cluttered you may be able to stock to capacity (24 fish) but you'd risk fights and overloading the filter.

For community fish i'd go with your ground dwellers so cories, maybe kuhli's. If your tank is tall and the females avoid the midrange you could try your small schoolers like tetras. Thank you! What if I put dirt under the sand would what work? If so what kind of dirt could I buy that would be safe. Yeah you can put a dirt layer down first! Any soil should work as far as i know but maybe get a second opinion just in case (im only just getting into the planted side of aquarium keeping)
