Pope Francis this week took the opportunity to view the latest version of "The Pope App", developed under the direction of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, President of the Council, accompanied by project coordinator, Thaddeus Jones, met on Monday with Pope Francis to show him the app, which was released in the iTunes and Google Play stores on the 4th of July. The Pope expressed his appreciation for the efforts and the work being done by all the Vatican's media services in enhancing their presence and participation in the digital world.
The Pope App 2.0 - "Your gateway to the latest news and information on Pope Francis" -- is free and can be downloaded on Apple and Android devices. The Pope App, powered by News.va, features the latest papal news and information as produced by the Vatican's own media services and posted on News.va, the official network hub of Vatican communication. The app allows you to follow live streaming of papal celebrations and audiences, receive notifications of public events, view papal photos and videos, read the latest @Pontifex tweets and the full texts of homilies and speeches, watch live the Vatican City webcams, and link to all the Vatican's online media offerings.
Version 2 has a new look and design which simplifies access to content and allows greater control over user settings, including easily switching between the app's five languages - English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. All media content is easily highlighted, copied, shared and can be saved for later viewing.
The Pope App and News.va are services provided and managed by the Pontifical Council for Social Communications (www.pccs.va), in cooperation with the Vatican's media outlets: Fides News Agency, L'Osservatore Romano, the Holy See Press Office, the Vatican Television Center (CTV), Vatican Radio, and the Internet Office of the Holy See.
