Though the soul singer Bobo Bojangles is known mainly for his studio-based output he was also a gifted (if somewhat unpredictable) live performer, as can be heard on this recording from 1962.

The story goes that Bobo arranged this concert at his favourite Bingo club in order to make amends with the owner and to raise funds to repair the damage he had personally caused to the club’s decor. It has since gone down in history as a legendary live performance with music fans who are ‘in the know’.

This recording reached number 89 on the charts in Germany in 1962. This copy was discovered in the basement of an office block in Madrid that was due for demolition.
