Enver Hoxha was the communist leader of Albania from 1944 until his death in 1985. He played a significant role in the history of Albania and was a controversial figure both within the country and internationally.

Hoxha was born in 1908 in the Albanian city of Gjirokaster and studied at the University of Montpellier in France before returning to Albania in 1939. In 1944, he became the leader of the communist resistance movement in Albania and played a key role in the country's liberation from Nazi occupation during World War II.

Following the war, Hoxha consolidated his power and established a communist regime in Albania that was modeled after the Soviet Union. He implemented a series of economic and social policies that transformed the country and brought about significant changes in areas such as education, healthcare, and social welfare.

However, Hoxha's rule was also marked by widespread human rights abuses, including the suppression of political opposition and the persecution of religious groups. He also pursued a foreign policy of isolationism, breaking off relations with the Soviet Union and other communist countries in the 1960s and 1970s.

Hoxha remained in power until his death in 1985, and his legacy remains a controversial and divisive issue in Albania today.
