WHAT IS A PERSONAL STATEMENT AND HOW IS IT USED DURING AN APPLICATION PROCESS?
A personal statement is used as part of an initial screening process for either a job application or whenever a student is applying for a specific course with a college or university.

The assessor will thoroughly read your personal statement and use it to decide whether to invite you along for an interview or to the next stage of the application process.

When someone is assessing a personal statement, they are predominantly looking for 3 things:
