Hi Guys,
In today's video, we are going to see how to backup and restore the WordPress site
If you have an AWS account, I would recommend using amazon s3 for faster backup and restore.
You can watch this video to learn to create an AWS account and install WordPress on it. - • How to Install WordPress on AWS for Free |...
In the WordPress dashboard, hover your mouse on the plugins and click add new.
In the search field, type updraft
We are going to use this plugin to backup and restore our site.
Click install now
Once installed, click activate
Now click press here to start or go to settings → updraftplus backups
In the updraft dashboard, click settings
In the settings, you can schedule the backups and choose the type of remote storage options that will be used when performing a backup
Note that some options might need to be paid.
Choose google drive (I will also show you how to use amazon s3 in the later part of the video).
Scroll down and click save changes
Now, click the link to connect your google account
Select your account and click Allow
Finally, click complete setup
Using google drive will take some time to backup and restore. However, it is the simplest method to configure.
Now, let’s use Amazon S3
Using this method will result in faster backups and restore.
Go to settings and select Amazon s3
Now, we need 3 things to connect s3.
Access key, secret key, and location of the storage bucket.
Go to AWS management console
Now, let’s create a user and give access to S3.
Search for IAM and open it
Click User and click add user
Type a name and select programmatic access.
Click next: permissions
Click Attach existing policies directly and search for S3
Now select AmazonS3FullAccess and click next
Click next again
Finally, click create user
Now, we have the access key and secrete key
You must download them by using the link provided. (Or else you won’t have access to it again)
Click close.
Now, let’s create an S3 bucket
Go to services, type S3, and open it.
Click Create Bucket
Type a name for it
Scroll down and click create bucket
Now the bucket has been created
The name of the bucket will also be its location
So now we have all the three things that are required to connect the S3.
Copy the name and get back to the updraft backups.
Paste it in the s3 location.
Now open the downloaded file
Copy the access key and secrete key and paste them in the corresponding field.
Click Test S3 Settings
If you get a popup that updraft can access the storage bucket, everything is configured perfectly and ready to backup using s3.
Scroll down and click save changes
So now we configured the settings
To back up the site, go to backup/restore and click backup now
And click backup now again
So now, the backup will start running.
Once completed, you will end up with a popup stating that the backup has completed.
All the backups will be shown at the bottom.
To restore it, just click restore.
Now select all the five options and click next
On the next, click restore
Wait for the restoration process to complete.
Now, our site is restored.
