What is a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit)? GPU vs. CPU

Описание к видео What is a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit)? GPU vs. CPU

If you've ever opened an image file on a computer, then you've used a GPU. Watch to learn what a GPU is, how it works, and how it's different from a CPU.

A GPU, short for graphics processing unit, is a computer chip that performs rapid mathematical equations for the purpose of rendering images. They can be part of a dedicated or integrated graphics card.

The central processing unit, or CPU, used to be responsible for these calculations, but as graphics became more elaborate and widely used, this put a slowed down the computer's overall performance. GPUs are able to render images more quickly than a CPU and even free up processing power. What was once used primarily for video games is now a common feature on all computers.
