Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Safiyyah Ally clarify a previous statement about Shia Muslim beliefs regarding wahy (divine revelation). Dr. Shabir acknowledges that his words give the impression that Shia Muslims believe revelation continues through their Imams. Both Sunnis and Shias agree that revelation ended with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). While some fringe views may suggest otherwise, mainstream Shia belief holds that the Imams are muhaddath, but not in the same way as prophets. Shia Imams are seen as divinely guided and infallible (ma‘sūm), unlike Sunni scholars, who are highly respected but ultimately fallible. Despite these theological differences, They emphasize the deep common ground between Sunnis and Shias and the need for unity and mutual respect within the Muslim community.
