iRobot did an excellent job in combining efficiency and thoroughness with the 980 thanks to the dirt-detect system that automatically does additional back-and-forth passes when it senses a dirtier path.

So even if it can go do only up to 2 runs, the additional passes add to the thoroughness. I've seen it do up to 4 or 5 back and forth passes on several occasions.

The 980 relies on a top-mounted camera to create a map, pinpoint its location, and detect obstacles around it.

One of the biggest strengths of this robot is how well it cleans carpet. It was able to pick up a share above 90%, which is one of the highest scores of all the robot vacuums - regardless of price.
