You can almost hear the seagulls… Alex Groves’s ‘Curved Form (St Endellion)’ is about the line of the horizon over the sea, fading in and out of sight, as viewed from a clifftop on the Cornish coast.

This immersive work was commissioned by Manchester Collective and performed for the first time in our Voice of the Whale tour, with its repeating patterns and subtly undulating harmonies transporting audiences to briny seascapes. It’s a truly visual piece that evokes a musician’s memory of the rain and the mist, the cloud cover, and the sea spray.

We’d originally planned to give its live premiere in April 2020, under the shadow of the great whale skeleton at the Oxford Museum of Natural History, but Covid made us wait. It was worth it.
