Today, I tackle criticism from EssenceOfThought. Please note that I'm short on time and literally just back from a road trip with a total of 20 hours on the road this weekend. In the video, you can tell that I'm exhausted, but these are literally the first words that popped into my mind, so I hope you enjoy a raw, more "authentic," and less edited me :)

Let me be perfectly clear: I do not agree with most of the content in iEmanuella's video. However, even if you disagree with her and think she's wrong, she's obviously speaking from a genuine place of love. So even if you don't agree with her (I don't), it's important to try to attempt and see where she's coming from and deal with the content in that context. Instead of pointing out faults or trying to reason with her, things got nasty, insulting, and hateful -- fast. And that's why many people (including me) were upset by the whole thing.

Religious people and the LGBT community can certainly coexist together. There are many gay Christians. It's sad to think that many believe the two are like oil and water.

You wanna know my beef? Why this whole thing has me upset? Because the general attitude that liberals and atheists tend to embrace is often along the lines of, "Well, we just have to wait til the old, religious generation dies out to make any progress."

Not only is that awful thinking, but it also ignores the fact that religion isn't going anywhere. Change should be positive, not hate-filled. There's a difference between thinking iEmanuella "deserved" what she got vs. educating people and adding to the conversation. Hence the statement in my last video: "If you're going to preach tolerance, then you better be tolerant, too."

But like I said in this video, I don't really like that word. Phew. But that's where I'm coming from.
