Pea Oat Field Chopping

Описание к видео Pea Oat Field Chopping

Justin Fruechte, Millborn's Forage and Cover Crop Specialist at Millborn Seeds, takes time on a beautiful Summer evening in South Dakota to share insight on a recently chopped field of Millborn's Pea Oat Blend.

This a great field of Millborn's Pea Oat Blend that ended up doing about 10 to 10.5 tons per acre. It was chopped five earlier in the week. This field did so well that another 15 acres will be hayed off.

This is great example of knowing what your goals are ahead of time and planning your planting and harvest schedule to achieve them.

As you can see in this windrow, there are a lot of mature pods and a lot of oats. It's a fully mature plant. The reason why we took this plant to maturity is because this is a beef cow operation. All we wanted to do was Winter some stock cows on Millborn's Pea Oat silage/hay.
It was taken to full maturity to maximize tonnage.

If this would have been a dairy operation or a case where someone was trying to start calves, we would have suggested an earlier harvest. In fact, Justin would've recommended harvesting in late boot stage so your fiber digestibility and feed quality is the best.

This particular field of Millborn's Pea Oat Blend can give you an outstanding high yielding feed as well as a high protein feed.

It's only mid July in South Dakota (during this video), so this field will be planted with a blend of Millborn's turnips, radishes, and brassicas to provide Winter grazing and ultimately maximize the value of the land.
