On Monday 23rd May 2022 at Brownlow House, David Dickson, Professor of Modern History at Trinity College Dublin, provided a lecture entitled ‘Arctic Ireland: The Great Frost Famine of 1740-41 and its aftermath. A Lurgan Perspective’.

In this talk, Professor Dickson sheds light on the circumstances of the 1740-1741 famine, brought about by a series of freak climatic events, and the devastating impact that it had on Lurgan town and Ireland as a whole.
