Hidden between the Leuven-Mechelen canal and Wilsele Dorp, just outside the center of Leuven, lies a very special green area. The shallow ponds were constructed in 1940 by the Bellefroid family to breed carp. In the 1980s, cultivation came to an end and nature took over the 21 hectares. Here you can look for the numerous water birds from behind bird watching walls, sit at the edge of the water for a picnic or simply follow the walking path and disappear into the greenery for a while.
