ASFAT from Türkiye launches Arpan 8X8 SPH 155 mm

During the IDEF 2023 defense exhibition in Istanbul, the Turkiye defense company ASFAT unveiled the Arpan 8X8 SPH ( Self-Propelled Howitzer ) mobile field artillery system .

For your information, ASFAT is currently responsible for managing and operating 27 military factories and 3 public shipyards which were previously under the Ministry of National Defense.

Regarding the Arpan 8X8 SPH project, ASFAT is developing it with other Turkiye defense companies namely ASELSAN, MKE and BMC.

For specifications, the Arpan 8X8 SPH has dimensions of 13 m in length, 3.4 m in height and 3.2 m in width, with a combat weight of around 38 tonnes.

The Arpan 8X8 SPH carries a 155 mm howitzer mounted on the rear of the 8X8 truck, which provides better mobility over various terrains.

The truck is equipped with a 600 hp diesel engine, which is capable of driving vehicles up to speeds of 80 km/h and an operating range of around 600 km.

Arpan 8X8 SPH is operated by 3 to 5 personnel. They sit in an armored cabin that offers Level 3 and Level 2 ballistic protection levels for protection against mine explosions or Improvised Explosives (IEDs).

In terms of firepower, its 155/52 caliber howitzer is capable of firing a wide variety of ammunition. When using M107 (HE) with a range of 18 km, using M549A1 (HE) with a range of 30 km, and using MOD 274 with a range of 40 km. The truck is equipped with 24 rounds of ammunition during its combat mission.

The Arpan 8X8 SPH uses a fire control system that includes a ballistic computer integrated with the vehicle command and control system, ensuring effective coordination at all levels.
