Baby Julian was born with something called ‘congenital diaphragmatic hernia,’ a life-threatening abnormality which occurs when the muscle between the chest and the abdomen don’t form properly, causing the stomach, intestines, and sometimes the liver to be pushed up into the chest, suppressing the growth of the lungs. Baby Julian was treated by Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s David Kays, M.D., a physician renowned for his positive outcomes in the area of congenital diaphragmatic hernia.
