The Swachh Survekshan 2025 rankings are out — and for the first time in 7 years, Indore is not at the top. But here’s the twist: Indore hasn’t dropped in performance, it has been promoted to the ‘Super Swachh League’, a new elite category for consistently top-performing cities.

Indore now joins cities like Surat and Navi Mumbai in this legendary league.

In the ranking for cities with populations over 10 lakh, Ahmedabad has secured the #1 spot, followed by Bhopal and Lucknow.

The government has also announced a ₹500 crore dumpsite cleaning mission, starting 15 August, to eliminate legacy waste, free up urban land, and improve waste processing systems across India.

Another new initiative – top cities will now mentor weaker cities in their states, following an ‘Each one, teach one’ model to uplift urban sanitation standards nationwide.
