Non-profit organisation Section 27 says it's had to continue threatening litigation against the Limpopo Education Department over the eradication of pit toilets. This is the situation, 9 years after 5-year-old Michael Komape drowned in a pit toilet at his school in Limpopo. Fast forward many years and the body of a four-year-old little girl was found in a pit toilet at a school in the Eastern Cape recently. Amnesty International SA has called on Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga to eradicate pit toilets. We speak to Senior Attorney at Section 27, Demichelle Petherbridge and Amnesty International SA Spokesperson, Mienke Steytler.
