On March 1, the Clinton Presidential Center Presents “‘Women’s Rights Are Human Rights, Once and For All’: The Story of a Speech” with former White House speechwriter Lissa Muscatine.

In 1995, women from around the globe gathered in Beijing, China, for the UN Fourth World Conference on Women to address the challenges women confronted. First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton rejected press and congressional calls to boycott the conference and flew to Beijing to stand with the women. She delivered a speech that galvanized the movement for women’s equality.

Lissa Muscatine was a key player in the White House speechwriting team throughout the Clinton administration years becoming First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton’s primary speechwriter. Muscatine will have a conversation about her life as a speechwriter and, in particular, the writing of that historic speech from the World Conference on Women, which is featured in the Clinton Center’s current exhibition “Women’s Voices, Women’s Votes, Women’s Rights.”

Dr. Mike Hemphill, Director of Leadership Development at the Clinton Foundation, will facilitate the conversation.
