The Kaiju Suite - Ver 2 | Pacific Rim (Original Soundtrack) by Ramin Djawadi

One of the first suites I ever did was for the Pacific Rim soundtrack, and given I'm doing del Toro suites now, I saw it as a good opportunity to actually do justice to the themes from that movie. The theme for the Kaiju is a lot more complex than I gave it credit for, with the main melody being this simple, four note motif played on pounding brass that evokes the feeling of classic monster films. Alongside that, there is a thumping, churning ostinato that signals their presence and threat, usually played before a battle with the titanic beasts. And there is also another four note motif that's far more quiet and ominous as opposed to their main theme, meant to convey the incoming doom that they bring. Altogether, it creates an amazing monster movie theme, perfectly evoking not only their might but also the apocalyptic catastrophe they will bring.
