The US Railroad Rock Island Line or the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad. This story is from its peak years in the 1950´s, and it predicts eternal growth and success for the US railroads and in particular for “The Rock”. 10 years later Rock Island saw its last year of profit. From then on it was 15 years of failed plans, mergers and a shrinking empire. And in spite of all the hard work and dedication it was shut down and liquidated in 1980.
