When I secured a new role at a dream company, I was ecstatic-until I realized I had a 90-day notice period to serve at my current job.

That's three long months of waiting!

But I didn't let that deter me.

Instead, I took strategic steps to negotiate an early release, and here's how you can do the same:

1. I also checked the terms of the current employment contract regarding the notice period, salary slip issuance, and any possible penalties for not serving the full notice period.

2. I created a detailed transition plan for my manager outlining how I would complete my projects, train my replacement, and ensure a smooth handover.

(This made it easier for my employer to see the benefit of releasing me early.)

3. I had accrued some leave days, which I used to shorten my notice period. If you have leave left, consider using it strategically.

Here's the email that I shared with my current employer to reduce my notice period-

Dear [Manager's Name],

I am writing to formally inform you of my resignation from [Current Company], effective immediately.

However, the new company needs me to join within 30 days, so can we reduce my notice period? I'm committed to a smooth transition and can:

Train my replacement Work extra hours Assist in any way needed

By taking these steps, I successfully reduced my notice period and joined my new company in just 45 days.
